At ACE, we recognize our responsibility to provide solutions that help clients manage environmental risks and make a long-term commitment to reduce our ecological impact and contribute to environmental causes.
Our global enterprise provides clients with insurance and reinsurance protection from the impact of natural catastrophes, including weather events that may be increasing in both frequency and severity due to climate change. We continue to develop new risk management products for clients concerned about environment and climate-related risks to their businesses. Our annual Environmental Report outlines the full scope of our commitment and activities to address environmental concerns.
Environmental Recognition
In 2011, ACE advanced its position on Newsweek’s Green Ranking of America’s top 500 largest public companies. In the magazine’s third annual evaluation of environmental performance, ACE ranked 6th in the financial services sector and 56th overall, up from 64th position in the 2010 ranking. In Newsweek's newly-added ranking of the top 500 largest international companies, ACE placed 37th among financial services companies and ranked 129thoverall. Companies on this year’s list were evaluated on their environmental footprint, management of that footprint, and transparency.
ACE was also named to the 2010 Carbon Performance Leadership Index (CPLI) by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), an independent, not-for-profit organization that gathers and scores primary corporate carbon emissions information from thousands of businesses around the world. ACE is among 48 companies – and one of only three insurance companies – in the CDP’s Global 500 to earn this recognition.
Making ACE a Greener Place
We reuse and recycle materials whenever possible, and we've adopted measures to reduce emissions from our facilities and company-owned or -leased vehicles.
In December 2009, the ACE Group’s North America regional headquarters in Philadelphia earned the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The building, located near Independence Hall in the city’s Historic District, was the first LEED-certified existing building in Philadelphia. In addition, ACE’s Bermuda office building was awarded LEED Gold certification in July 2011, becoming the first building on the island to be LEED certified.
Our employees are also actively engaged in making ACE a greener place. We have instituted a global employee participation program called ACE Green to raise environmental awareness among our 16,000 employees, and to encourage and support them in promoting environmental efficiency in their local offices.
